Response to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Strategy on Women and Girls
The author of our report Older Women: the hidden workforce has considered what the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office's new International Women and Girls Strategy means for older women.
The International Women and Girls Strategy 2023 to 2030, launched in March 2023, describes the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office's (FCDO) priorities for tackling gender inequality. It follows the launch of the FCDO's International Development Strategy in May 2022, which despite calls from Age International and over 7,000 petition signatories failed to explicitly refer to older people's needs and rights.
We had hoped that the FCDO would go on to outline in more detail how it would address the rights and needs of women throughout the life course, including in its Women and Girls Strategy. Age International's Policy Adviser, Kate Horstead, has examined the new strategy to understand to what extent this has been achieved and identify steps the FCDO can take to further strengthen its commitment to women of all ages.
